About us…

We originate from two very different places: Pauline from the leafy lanes of Surrey, John from the badlands of the Mersey Delta.

We met in London in 1979 and have always enjoyed writing and performing our songs to friends and family. But after meeting a man on a bench with a squeeze box who invited us to play in public, we now do this on a regular basis. And this is what we like doing most: playing our songs in front of a live audience.

Our early musical influences are varied: Hank Williams, Carole King, Kenny Ball, Arthur Blake, Joni Mitchell, Jake Thackray, Richard and Linda Thompson, Nic Jones, Martin Carthy to name but a few.

Inspiration for our tunes often comes from British or American traditional music but can also come from Jazz or Music Hall or anywhere really.

Inspiration for the words can also come from anywhere for example: the news, the weather, a book, the environment, family history, the Norfolk countryside, a chance conversation with a complete stranger. We mainly write from real events and tell stories of real people.

We like to write about a range of subjects and tend to steer away from love songs (there are plenty of good love songs around already) preferring our songs to tell a good story following in the Folk tradition.

Please follow the links to listen to our songs. We hope you enjoy them and if you would like us to play at your venue please contact us. We would love to hear from you.

“Thank you so much for a great night everybody appreciated your performance, you are such a brilliant duo”. - Phil
